History

Balta Dairy Canning Plant of Baby Food (BDP) was constructed with help of Abbot Laboratories (USA) and set in operation in 1980.

The plant was designed with a capacity to process 500 tons of raw milk per day and produce dried milk mixtures for baby food, special food for sportsmen and expectant mothers, skimmed milk powder, whole milk powder, sour cream, lactose and butter.

Balta Dairy was built following a 1975 decision in Moscow, based on results of careful researches, including analysis of climatic and agricultural conditions, source of raw materials, as a base of milk cattle breeding development in the region.

The supply zone of BDP is under The State Program of Natural Resources Protection in Balta and neighbor regions, which provides prohibition of soil chemicalization (use of chemical fertilizers or pesticides) and building of manufacturing enterprises. It had a wholesome influence on quality of fodder and consequently on raw milk. Owing to environment protection measures and use of high-technology equipment, ecologically safe production, satisfying the present Ukrainian and foreign quality standards is produced.

In 80th, BDP has produced most part of human milk substitutes in former USSR. Furthermore, its production have also successfully competed with higher-priced imported substitutes, owing to main advantage- ecologically safe raw milk, the base of all milk products.

In the spring of 1997, after long period of stagnation, BDP had been turned into a privately owned public joint stock company. Although the original building and equipment were in good condition, the founders needed investors for a total modernization of the plant and, therefore, production of more competitive goods, utilizing modern technologies and package materials, satisfying domestic market with high quality baby food. Also, they aimed to increase sales volume and to enter the foreign market.

At the expenses of investors experienced in such fields as promotion of food products to the markets of Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), wide utilization of milk market researches and application of advertising appeals, the new leaders of BDP shortly managed to renew a raw milk collection, basic productions and founded a net of distributors and commercial representatives all over Ukraine. Due to that measures, by 1998 a products under brand name Lasunya (a smiling caw) became recognizable throughout Ukraine.

Quality of Lasunya milk was highly appreciated not only by native customers but also by famous foreign food products makers. So, Swiss company Nestle has placed on a Lasunya milk packing a sign of its instant chocolate beverage Nesquick.

"We aim to enlarge range of sour milk and whole milk products for more complete satisfaction of overgrowing demand of population, design of new high-quality organic baby food, preferred by adults and their children themselves. We also going to increase efficiency of our production, to promote our trademark Lasunya and create newest automated diversified concern with all stages of manufacturing- from collecting row milk to finished commodity output"-says President of BDP Boboshko V.

We have finished reconstruction of basic and auxiliary manufacture, gasification of boiler-house and plant's settlement. We have also reestablished institute of social service for our workers and members of their families.

We work only with skilled workers with operational experience in milk production sphere and graduates of specialized high schools and colleges.

The basic market for special baby food is CIS (Russia, Belarus, Moldova). In particular in these countries from the very beginning of child's life a lack of milk mixtures, especially ones of domestic manufacturers, competitive to imported goods, is found. There is a tendency towards to widening a foreign market of dry milk mixtures (Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan).

About 95% of skimmed milk powder and about 85% of butter are exported to close and far foreign countries (Russia, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Holland, France, Japan, China and African countries). A shipment of finished commodity is carrying out with motor and railway transport.

BDP workers have a great aim and do their best to use advanced science and practice researches and to keep trademark Lasunya on high level.
