Social Aspects

   The management of the Company gives much attention to the improvement of labour, living and recreation conditions of employees of the Plant and their family members.

   With this aim, a public catering at lower prices is organized at the dining hall of BDP that accommodates 100 dining persons. Workers busy in industries with adverse labour conditions are provided with a special extra meal.

   There is a polyclinic with experienced, highly-skilled medical specialists and modern medical facilities intended for prevention and treatment of various deseases. Free treatment including physiotherapy and high-quality dental aid is given regularly at the polyclinic to workers of the Plant and their families. The polyclinic has a status of a treatment / preventive treatment institution where the workers may be examined by specialists for disability and sick-leave certificates may be issued.

   Prevention of diseases by medical supervision of labour conditions became the most important line in work of the polyclinic.

   Building and installation work to provide gas supply to the township for heating and hot water supply to dwelling houses is nearly accomplished.

   Workers are taken to work and back by Plant's transport.

   There is a summer sports and recreation ground and a sports hall with facilities for training in the winter.

   The Company takes care of the growing generation and gives the children much attention. Substantial amounts of money are allocated every year for organization of children's recreation at the country camp and for mass cultural arrangements. A festival, ZVYOZDY UKRAINY (Ukrainian Starts), was held in the city of Balta in 2001 on the occasion of the accomplishment of works related to the liquidation of consequences of the natural calamity in northern areas of Odessa region in November and December 2000. The symphony orchestra of Odessa Philarmonic Society performed concerts twice in the shops and production areas of the Plant with the participation of leading soloists. The national orchestra of folk instruments from the city of Kiev performed successfully in September at Dumsky square under the motto of Lasunya's birthday, and a theatrical procession with a brass band was held in main streets of the city.

   A transport is provided on reast-days for family recreation with cultural and sports arrangements. The hilly forest land around the Plant with unique recreative features contributes essentially to a good rest.

   Balta Dairy Plant renders considerable support to the development of mass sports. LASUNYA Football Sports Club is a champion of winter contests in the city of Odessa among the adults' teams of 1999/2000 and 2000/2001. A challenge cup and a set of medals were awarded to the club. The Balta city team is a champion of Odessa region of 2000/2001.

     Young specialists have special training: 9 students are trained at higher educational institutions and 2 students at secondary specialized educational institutions majoring in dairy industries. A new dwelling house with modern amenities is built for certified young specialists.

   Balta Dairy Plant is a main contractor in UKRAINE FOR CHILDREN State program aimed at providing home market with high-quality food products for children, thus contributing to a sucessful implementation of Resolution No 4/17-398 of the Department of Health of Ukraine of September 6, 2000 "On Implementation of Assignment No 1-14/415 of President of Ukraine of April 14, 2000 "On Improvement of Provision of High-Quality Food for Children Below 2".

   Balta Dairy Plant won a tender announced by Kiev City Administration for supply of milk to schoolboys / schoolgirls and, by virtue thereof, provides milk for pupils in several districts of Kiev.

   The Plant renders regular assistance to children's pre-school institutions (children's homes, special boarding schools, orphan asylums, maternity hospitals) as well as to children in unhappy families by providing them food free of change.
